A Unique Ethos

A word from the Founder
Sarah Fleming

"I suffered from low self esteem after finishing University. Then, I was invited back to the Miss Wales contest, where I got to wear a beautiful gown and do my hair and make up. I felt a million dollars.

"The way we feel shouldn't be so tied to the way we look, and I'm very much against plastic surgery and "fakeness", but it's a feeling we can't help. It's not about extreme dieting to make yourself feel good, instead, standing up for who you are with other inspiratinal women, looking your best, feeling great and motivated to go out there and reach your goals.

"And it's all raising money for a very worthy cause, helping ourselves and helping others by raising funds and awareness for B-eat. Women often forget about doing that first part..."

" The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.

True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. "

Miss Heart of Wales is a Welsh pageant that allows any woman over the age of 16 to participate, regardless of size, marital status or modeling experience. There is NO upper age limit. There is NO swimwear round and instead, we focus on letting their inner-beauty shine. Miss Heart of Wales' main purpose is to showcase the exceptional women of Wales and support them in reaching their goals.

We're a beautiful and proud nation, full of strong, individual, intelligent and wonderful people, in a celebration of this; we've launched a "pageant" like no other. Successful applicants will be those that are exceptional ambassadors for our sex and our country.

A healthy mind and body is paramount. We're not looking for the skinniest, sexiest, or flashiest contestant, we concentrate on helping all the contestants to improve their confidence, motivation and having a really positive experience. We offer free coaching and motivation to all finalists, and discounted one-on-one sessions to ensure they all feel their most confident on the final day.

Not a parade of Swimwear models...

Today, there are many common misconceptions about "beauty pageants" - many view them as old-fashioned and anti-feminist. The reality is, the majority are a celebration of femininity and what it means to be a woman. Many of the biggest pageants (Miss Wales, Miss Earth UK) have abandoned the swimwear round and the focus is very much on producing intelligent and elegant winners.

We conducted a survey and found that the most popular reason for entering pageants was to improve self-confidence, with many finding that the experience affected them for the better. However, whilst this was the general consensus, we wanted ALL contestants to come away feeling empowered and motivated.

Philanthropy at the heart...

All Miss Heart of Wales finalists are chosen because they're exceptional people, with a desire to give back to the community. Miss Heart of Wales finalists raise money for the eating disorder charity B-EAT. We've received overwhleming support about our chosen charity, with a staggering amount of people coming forward and sharing their stories   so whilst ensuring health of body and mind of finalists, we'd like to help others at the same time by raising money for this wonderful charity.

In fact, our 2012 finalists raised a wonderful £4000! With our 2012 Miss Compassionate Heart, Crystal Jones raising a staggering £1000 herself and fellow finalists Rachel Cox and Natalie Roderick raising over £500 each. Thank you sincerely to all the girls for their efforts. Our finalists have a true desire to give back, and don't do so, "just because they have to" - for example, several are undertaking skydives in the coming months and Jessica Smale is cycling all the way to Paris to raise funds and awareness for B-eat. Truly inspirational.
